ALTA Week 6 Summary
ALTA Week 6 Summary – Striking, Grappling, Wrestling
🥊 Striking – Creating Angles
This week focuses on gaining positional advantage through angular footwork. Four main techniques are drilled:
- Pivot – Rotate off your lead foot after stepping in with combos like the hop jab + two + hook.
- Roll-Out – Level your stance and roll out to exit and re-engage.
- Check Hook – Lateral step + torso turn to create a sharp exit while scoring.
- Reverse Pivot – Cross step with a pivot, rare but useful when opponent shells up. Think Lomachenko.
🤼 Grappling – Half Guard Bottom
You learn to survive, control, and attack from the bottom in half guard:
- Leg Position – Use your inside leg to apply pressure to opponent’s calf.
- Upper Body Control – Block cross-face, fight for underhooks, stay on your side.
- Jaws of Life – Recovery when flattened: push head to centre, bench press chin, frame, recover side posture, re-dig underhook.
- Single Leg Get-Up – Underhook, bump or rake, grab leg, come to knees, finish sweep.
- Kimura Attack – Sit up, lock kimura, apply shoulder lock, or sweep to top if they roll out.
🏋️ Wrestling – Double Leg Defence
This week activates the sprawl with real applications:
- Banana Hips Drill – Trains posture against pressure using partner’s legs as feedback.
- Live Defence – Use hips to stop the shot, avoid becoming the “drunk friend.”
- Frame & Whizzer – Frame on neck + overhook controls distance and posture.
- Sprawl to Turtle – Sprawl to force face plant, then:
- Kill All Grips (“kill it with fire”)
- Prevent Arm Regrip (“hand out of the grave”)
- Circle Behind the Arms to secure dominant position.
