ALTA Week 2 Summary
🥊 Striking – Straight Punching Combos & Drills
We’re building on Week 1 footwork and adding straight punches. Focus is on repetition and precision.
Combos to drill:
- Stiff jab (touch step)
- Pull, cross (touch step backwards)
- Hop jab, two (hop step)
- Double jab / Double jab–cross (shuffle step variants)
- Skip jab, two – aka “Bop the Baby” (skip step)
Drills:
- Line work: combos while moving forward/back
- Shadow boxing: combos while moving randomly 📹 Pro tip: record yourself – camera doesn’t lie.
🧩 Grappling – Open Guard Bottom & Sweep Series
Learn to stay safe on your back, defend with your legs, and sweep to top position.
Key concepts:
- Base posture & “party legs” to keep legs between you and opponent
- Up-kicks to create distance or strike
- Tech stand to recover position
Sweeps:
- Tripod Sweep – grab heel, foot on hip, hook behind other knee → push/pull to sweep.
- Tomahawk/Sickle Sweep – if foot gets pushed inside.
- DLR Sweep – if foot gets pushed outside.
- Idiot Sweep – if they step too close, grab both heels and butterfly hook them down.
Drill formats:
- Partner reps: start from breakfall
- Shark tank: rotating partners with live cues
- Gradual resistance: no sparring mindset
🤼 Wrestling – Single Leg Takedowns (Head Inside/Outside)
Your first wrestling takedown. Target one leg and finish with “Run the Pipe” technique.
Key details:
- Gable grip + rowing action
- Rule of the Single Nipple – keep your head in the right spot
- Run the pipe – step-pivot combo to sit opponent down
- No Bulldozer – don’t use your head to push
Variations:
- Head inside single – head across chest
- Head outside single – head outside near armpit
Entries from striking range:
- Skip jab entry
- Cross-step entry
- Level change entry (off opponent’s combo)
Stance awareness:
- Open vs Closed stance – defines angle & entry choice
